We're looking forward to welcoming you back to our events in 2024! We've planned 4 events this year based on the seasons and how that directs life on the farm. Our first is Spring and we'll be sharing with you the story of regeneration at Uplowman Village Hall.
Post event update!
We had a great time at our Spring event, thank you to everyone who came! Checkout our event highlights in our Instagram post below:
Read on below for the details for the event before it happened . . .
Supporting local businesses
Our events just wouldn't be the same without the local artisan stalls who accompany us. All of the local businesses who join us have views which align with ours and they ensure they're always thinking of how their decisions affect the environment with what they do.
At our spring event, you'll find:
Katie from Katie Chapple Photography
As a very talented photographer, we've been fortunate that Katie has done most of the photography for our website!
Having grown up on a farm and around animals all her life, Katie has a real affinity for capturing them in their natural environment, with the patience for catching that perfect image. You'll be able to purchase a range of cards & prints at our event. She specialises in pet and family photography, so you can chat with Katie if you want to book your own photoshoot with her. Check out her Facebook or Instagram pages @katiechapplephotography or website to find out more.
Jenna from The Wood Nest
Jenna is a designer maker who produces a unique range of gifts and more using locally sourced sawmill offcuts or reclaimed wood, to create a canvas for new work, inspired by her adventures in nature.
With a brilliant eye for detail, you can feel Jenna's love for the natural world around her in her art pieces. Find Jenna on Instagram @thewoodnestdevon or visit her website to find out more.
Paula from Felting Feels
Paula has had a love of textiles for many years, knitting or sewing many wonderful things, but she really found her passion when she started expanding her knowledge of the heritage craft of felting four years ago.
Since then Paula has invested a lot of time mastering the art and amazes me with the huge range of felted creations she handcrafts. She's more than happy to explain the felting process and show you her products when you visit her stall. If you'd like to find out more, check out her Instagram @feltingfeels or website to find out more.
Francesca from Francesca Mack Smith Silver Jewellery
Francesca is an artist and maker producing carefully considered silver and enamel jewellery that reflects the nature around her since her move to Devon.
Working with recycled silver, adding colour with enamels, Francesca handmakes delicate pieces from pendants to rings and much more, in a distinctive style interpreting colours from the natural world. Attending markets & craft fayres, along with taking on commissions, to see more find Francesca on instagram @francesca_mack_smith.
Tim at From Tim’s Workshop
Tim has the amazing vision to acquire salvage items that he can repurpose, restore and upcycle to create unique pieces of agri art, homewares and furniture.
With the use of woods such as oak, elm, sycamore and even pallet wood combined with metal objects others would consider scraps, interesting pieces come to life under Tim’s expert hands. We are fortunate to have him represented at our event, as he attends various markets, locally at Tiverton and further afield such as North Devon, Dorset and more. Find him on instagram @from_tims_workshop.
Plant a sunflower for our hens
Our older hens moult in the autumn and grow a whole new set of feathers ready for the winter. This means they need more protein than usual in their diet, which we like to provide in the form of sunflower seeds!
We'll be handing out mini packs of sunflower seeds with a guide on how to grow, care for and harvest your plants. You can grow the sunflowers at home and enjoy the flowers, then bring the seed heads to our autumn event for our hens to enjoy. Don't worry if your sunflowers aren't ready by then though - we'll leave a sunflower collection point at the end of our farm lane for those late bloomers!
We'll have an information point at the event where you can find out all about our Plant a sunflower for our hens and ask any questions so that you're ready to get involved.
Food and drinks
Our focus for this event will be on beef, so we'll be hot serving food throughout - a deliciously warming beef or root veg stew with a savoury scone for just £6.50 per portion or £4.50 for children.
Tea, coffee, a selection of soft drinks and make sure you leave room for a cow cupcake for dessert . . . the stampede for these could cause udder chaos! (Sorry, we just couldn't resist a good cow pun to a-mooo-se you 🤣)
